The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the Presentation Ceremony of ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ on Friday, 15 October 2021. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Sin Nga-yan, Benedict, the representative of Dr. Sin Wai-kin and the Director and General Manager of Myer Jewelry Manufacturer Limited, Dr. Joseph Pang, Convenor of CUHK 50th Anniversary Fund Raising Committee, Mr. Heung Shu-fai, Louis, Trustee of New Asia College of CUHK, Professor Chan Tak-cheung, Anthony, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, Professor Wong Ka-chat, Andy, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK, Professor Tang Xiao-bing, Max, Dean of Faculty of Arts of CUHK, and Ms. Lolitta Wong, Director of Institutional Advancement of CUHK. Owing to the pandemic, the physical ceremony on campus was suspended last year. This year, the ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Outstanding Students in Arts, History and Philosophy’ of the cohorts 2019/20 and 2020/21 were gathered to share the gratifying moments.
In the welcoming speech, Professor Anthony Chan thanked Dr. Sin and his family for their longstanding support rendered to CUHK, in particular towards the development of the humanities. Mr. Benedict Sin also encouraged all scholarship recipients to equip themselves and contribute learnings in Arts, History and Philosophy to building a better future for the society.
Aiming to foster academic research, the ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ was established in 2013 by Dr. Sin Wai-kin in the midst of the 50th anniversary of CUHK to award outstanding students majoring in Arts, History and Philosophy. Mr. Lee Ho-yeung, from Department of Philosophy and Mr. Law Yu-him, from Department of History represented all scholarship recipients to express their gratitude to Dr. Sin for his generosity in setting up this meaningful award which relieved their financial burden in order to further their studies, broaden their horizons and provided more career or advancement opportunities. Thank you cards were presented by the scholarship recipients to Mr. Sin at the end of the Ceremony. They also shared with the distinguished guests their university lives and future plans on the occasion.
