The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the eighth “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Presentation Ceremony” on Wednesday, 24 November 2021. The ceremony was officiated by Mr. Thomas Liang, Chief Executive of the Wei Lun Foundation, Professor Anthony Chan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, and Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President of CUHK and Convenor of Advisory Committee on “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Endowment Fund”. Miss Michelle Liang and members of Advisory Committee also gathered and shared this delightful moment with the Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholars after one-year suspension of physical ceremony.

In his welcoming address, Professor Anthony Chan expressed the immense gratitude to the late Dr the Honourable Lee Quo-wei, the Lee Family and the Wei Lun Foundation for their unwavering support to CUHK. He also congratulated and encouraged all the Scholars to keep striving for excellence for the betterment of the humankind.

This year, a total of 47 students have been awarded the “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship”. Representing all the Scholars, Leung Wai-shan, Isis expressed their gratitude to the Wei Lun Foundation for making CUHK a nurturing environment for future leaders.

Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of CUHK in 2013, the “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Endowment Fund” was established to award medical students, law students and Mainland students with excellent academic achievement, and also support the students with financial needs for the exchange programmes.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the Presentation Ceremony of ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ on Friday, 15 October 2021.  The event was graced by the presence of  Mr. Sin Nga-yan, Benedict, the representative of Dr. Sin Wai-kin and the Director and General Manager of Myer Jewelry Manufacturer Limited, Dr. Joseph Pang, Convenor of CUHK 50^th Anniversary Fund Raising Committee, Mr. Heung Shu-fai, Louis, Trustee of New Asia College of CUHK, Professor Chan Tak-cheung, Anthony, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, Professor Wong Ka-chat, Andy, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK, Professor Tang Xiao-bing, Max, Dean of Faculty of Arts of CUHK, and Ms. Lolitta Wong, Director of Institutional Advancement of CUHK. Owing to the pandemic, the physical ceremony on campus was suspended last year. This year, the ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Outstanding Students in Arts, History and Philosophy’ of the cohorts 2019/20 and 2020/21 were gathered to share the gratifying moments.

In the welcoming speech, Professor Anthony Chan thanked Dr. Sin and his family for their longstanding support rendered to CUHK, in particular towards the development of the humanities.  Mr. Benedict Sin also encouraged all scholarship recipients to equip themselves and contribute learnings in Arts, History and Philosophy to building a better future for the society.

Aiming to foster academic research, the ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ was established in 2013 by Dr. Sin Wai-kin in the midst of the 50^th anniversary of CUHK to award outstanding students majoring in Arts, History and Philosophy.  Mr. Lee Ho-yeung, from Department of Philosophy and Mr. Law Yu-him, from Department of History represented all scholarship recipients to express their gratitude to Dr. Sin for his generosity in setting up this meaningful award which relieved their financial burden in order to further their studies, broaden their horizons and provided more career or advancement opportunities.  Thank you cards were presented by the scholarship recipients to Mr. Sin at the end of the Ceremony.  They also shared with the distinguished guests their university lives and future plans on the occasion.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the 4th “The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholars Roundtable Discussion” on Tuesday, 1 June 2021, providing a platform for the scholars of the cohorts 2019/20 and 2020/21 to gather together. The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Karen Cheung, Trustee and Chief Strategist of The D. H. Chen Foundation (the Foundation), Mr. Peter Poon, Chief Program Officer of the Foundation, Ms. Polly Cheng, Program Manager of the Foundation, Mr. Jeremy Lok, Program Executive of the Foundation, Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, Professor Wong Suk-ying, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK, Ms. Lolitta Wong, Director of Institutional Advancement of CUHK and Ms. Fanny Yuen, Assistant Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK.

Professor Wong Suk-ying delivered her welcoming speech on behalf of CUHK and expressed her sincerest gratitude to the Foundation for their continued trust in the University and unwavering support to the local tertiary education. She also encouraged the scholars to study hard and to serve local and international society with their knowledge. Seven scholars shared their university lives and plans for the future with the distinguished guests. They also exchanged ideas with the guests and benefited greatly from the roundtable discussion.

In 2015, the Foundation established “The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship” which annually awards around twenty outstanding undergraduate students from various local universities, offering tuition fees, and living and overseas exchange subsidies. The scholars are also offered a wide range of activities, including social services, mentorship programmes, annual reception and roundtable meetings, in a bid to broaden their global horizons and inspire them to drive community and social development.
