Opening Ceremony of the Fung Kin g Hey Building (From left) Mrs. Fung King Hey, Sir John Bremridge, Dr. the Hon. Q. W. Lee, Lady Bremridge, Mr. Tony Fung and Dr. Ma Lin The University has named the Academi c Building I after the late Mr. Fung King Hey, in recognition of Mr. Fung's long-term support to it s development of business administration education. At a ceremony held on 27th January, the Hon. Sir John Bremridge, the Financial Secretary, and Mrs. Fung King Hey together unveiled the commemorative plaque for the building. Members of the Fung family and guests from the local business community attended the ceremony. In his brief remarks, Sir John pointed out that 'In naming this academic building Fung King Hey Building, the University is paying tribute to the contribution of a man whose own knowledge was largely self-taught but who had the largeness of heart to see to it that there are easier ways for other people.' The Fung King Hey Building, a seven-storey building with a tota l floor area of 6,000 sq.m ., is one of the largest academic buildings in the University. It is equipped with group teaching facilities and accommodates the Departments of Chinese, Economics and Sociology, several Faculty offices and research centres. Address by the Vice-Chancellor Sir John and Lady Bremridge, Mrs. Fung, Dr. Lee, Mr. Fung, Ladies & Gentlemen , Today is a special occasion for The Chinese University, because we are gathered here to honour one of our long-time benefactors who for many years was the Co-Chairman of our Three-Year MBA Advisory Board. Mr. Fung King Hey became Co-Chairman o f the Advisory Board not because he raised the money to establish the Three-Year MBA Programme at our University, but because the whole project was really his idea from the start. That was in 1976 when MBA part-time courses were not available to working executives, and it too k a man with Mr. Fung's foresight to see that this need not be the case. Mr. Fung, together with Mr. Cheng Yu Tung and many of his friends, donated a total of $5 million to help start this evening programme i n 1977. In spite of Sir John's heroic efforts to hold inflation down, I must say that $5 million in 1977 was worth much 4 NEWS
