News in Brief 35 Hong Kong Public Policy Innovation Award Two CUHK teams were the 2nd runners- up (Youth Sector) of the Hong Kong Public Policy Innovation Award 2005–06: ‘Medical Service Concern Group’, formed by undergraduate students, Lee Ho-kei, Kong Tin-chun, Si Bao- ling, and Tina Chan Yee-ching, with project ‘Medical Service up North’; and ‘Evidence-based Traditional Chinese Medicine’, formed by Ph.D. student Vincent Chung (School of Public Health) and HKU M.Phil. student Wendy Wong (Family Medicine Unit). The awards presentation ceremony was held on 6 May 2006. The Hong Kong Public Policy Innovation Award is jointly organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Hong Kong Policy Research Institute, and sponsored by the Sustainable Development Fund. The competition comprised two categories: secondary school students and young adults under 35. The participating teams researched on topics including Town Planning Policy and Development in the Pan-Pearl River Delta, Medical, Food andHealthcare Policy, Youth Participation and Cultural Policy. Each team was required to prepare and submit a written report in either Chinese or English and to present the content of their reports. 2005 Leader of The Year Ms. Yu Chui-yee, freshman in the Department of Geography and Resource Management of Chung Chi College, has been awarded 2005 Leader of the Year (sports/culture/performing arts) by the Singtao Group on 28 March. Ms. Yu Chui-yee, Paralympics Wheelchair Fencing gold medallist, underwent left shin amputation at 13 after she was diagnosed as suffering from bone cancer. She began learning wheelchair fencing in 2000 and in 2001, represented Hong Kong for the first time in the Lonato Wheelchair Fencing World Cup from which she came away with two silver medals. Later in the year, shewon one gold and one silver in the Fifth Budapest International Wheelchair Fencing Competition. She was Scholarship Athlete of Hong Kong Sports Institute in 2002. Ms. Yu went on to win some 20 more gold or silver medals in her career, including four gold in the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games, and two gold and one silver in the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in 2006.
