Departments can apply external user accounts for their departmental guests to access required IT services on campus.

If your guests only need on campus WiFi, you can apply for a CUguest WiFi account instead.

A. Service Charge

Each external user account is charged at $30/ day. The service charge can be waived if the guest is

  • A visiting scholar / lecturer
  • Student who is registered for an approved course of study in Sub-degree, Professional and Continuing Education Programmes (SPCEPs) subject to the University management fee chargeable on the total income of self-financed teaching programmes which are offered by CUHK Faculties/ Departments/ Institutes/ Schools/ Centres
  • Participants under a study programme which provides 17% overhead charges to the University

C. Renewal

Annual renewal is required for project accounts.

Procedures:

  1. Expiry reminder will be sent to account coordinator (applicant) before the expiry date.
  2. Renewal is available 30 days before and after the account expiry date.
  3. For individual account, please submit the account information at ITSC Computer Account Application and Management System (CAAMS) (via Campus Network or CUHK / SSL VPN); OR,
    For multiple accounts i.e. more than 5 accounts managed by the same applicant and endorser, please submit your preference through the online form (via staff login).
  4. If renewal request is not submitted 30 days after the expiry date, ITSC reserves the right to close and delete the unattended account(s).

 

D. Closure

You should update ITSC to close an unused account. Please back up the files related to the account before its closure.

  • For individual account, please submit the account information through the online form (via staff login).
  • For multiple accounts i.e. more than 5 accounts managed by the same applicant and endorser, please submit your preference through the online form (via staff login).

The external user account is widely used on different IT services:

  • On campus WiFi
  • Blackboard (only if specified; further coordination with eLearning@cuhk.edu.hk required)
  • Zoom
  • PCs in User Areas / Learning Commons
  • Other CUHK Applications (further requests might be required)

Accounts expire on the date when visiting guests leave the University. Please archive and back up all data files before the account expiry.

To extend the account, the host department may submit the request to ITSC Service Desk  with a scanned copy of the responsible staff’s CU Link.
