Academic Building I Came in to Use Swire Lecture Halls Opened The Academic Building I, situated at mid-level beside the Li Dak-sum Building, came into use recently. Having a gross floor area o f around 3,000 square metres, the seven-storey building provides ample teaching facilities in the form o f sizable lecture halls, conference rooms, seminar rooms and classrooms, and is accessible to handicapped students. It houses the offices o f the Faculties o f Arts and Social Science, the Graduate School and the Departments o f Economics and Chinese Language and Literature. The two close-seat tiered lecture theatres are well-designed to meet the acoustic and visual require ments and are equipped w ith audio-visual aid facilities, sliding blackboards and dimmer light controls. Other lecture rooms smaller in size are also adequately equipped, w ith minor modifications to suit individual needs. The project, in itia lly financed wholly by the Government at about eight m illion dollars, received a donation o f one m illion dollars from The Swire Group. In appreciation o f this generous support, the two lecture theatres were named Swire Lecture Halls, which were formally opened by Mr. John Swire, Chairman o f John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd. at a brief ceremony held on 26th October. Among the guests attending the ceremony were Dr. the Hon. Q.W.
