132 Part 4 Support Facilities, Services, and Staff Organizations Health Service The University Health Service is charged with the responsibility of meeting the health needs of students, staff, and their dependents. A comprehensive primary care service has been developed to handle the medical and dental problems of users. The Health Centre is open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on Saturday. Services include • diagnosis, counselling, preventive and curative treatment, diagnostic laboratory tests, and physiotherapy; • health education programmes and other related activities; • dental consultation and examination, preventive treatment, prosthodontics and minor surgeries, urgent dental treatment (for emergencies only); • coordination of access to special laboratory and x-ray services, referrals to appropriate specialists, treatment centres, or hospitals. No charges are levied on any of the clinical services provided directly by the University Health Service, with the exception of dental services. Sports Facilities Sports facilities on campus include two sports fields, three gymnasiums, a swimming pool, 14 tennis courts, eight squash courts, four weight training rooms, and a water sports centre. The sports fields are built with covered spectator stands on the lowlands facing the sea. The Haddon-Cave Sports Field (with a seating capacity of 2,800 and flood-light facilities) comprises a 400-metre all-weather track, a soccer pitch and an archery practice field. The Lingnan Stadium Sports Field provides a 400- metre track, a soccer pitch, a basketball court, a handball court and a volleyball court. Each of the three indoor gymnasiums (New Asia, United, and University) houses badminton courts, basketball/volleyball courts, and dance studios/table- tennis rooms. There are six squash courts in the Kwok Sports Building beside the University Sports Centre. The multi-purpose hall on the Chung Chi campus provides similar facilities on a slightly smaller scale. On the Shaw College campus, there are two indoor squash courts and a basketball/table-tennis exercises room. Adjacent to the Benjamin Franklin Centre, which is a staff-student amenities building, is an outdoor 50-metre swimming pool. The Water Sports Centre is located on the Tolo Harbour shoreline. The Sir Run Run Shaw Hall With a seating capacity of 1,438, the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall is a well-equipped auditorium suitable for holding ceremonies, assemblies, meetings, lectures and exhibitions, and for staging concerts, plays and film shows. The hall also utilizes its Cultural Activities Fund to present and sponsor high-quality stage performances
