Faculty and Departmental Research/Consultancy Units 105 Centre for Housing Innovations Tel.: 2609 6517 Fax.: 2603 5267 E-mail: innovations@cuhk.edu.hk The Centre for Housing Innovations was established in December 1998 by the Department of Architecture in partnership with the Ministry of Construction of China (MOC). It is the result of five years of intensive research on China urban housing, which enjoyed the continual support of the MOC and the Architectural Society of China. The aim of establishing the centre is to produce high quality, high density and low-cost urban housing in China, to improve the quality of living and the efficacy of urban housing in China. Research is focused on the development of building technologies, the use of innovative building materials, and the use of newmanagement methods, covering areas such as green architecture design, China housing airducts study, energy conservation study in residential buildings for cold and extremely cold climates, application of geographical information systems on China urban housing, the development of new housing prototypes of middle-high-rise buildings, and China housing policy studies. Centre for Innovation and Technology Tel.: 2603 8221 Fax.: 2603 7327 E-mail: info@cintec.cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.cintec.cuhk.edu.hk The Centre for Innovation and Technology (CINTEC) was renamed from Information Networking Laboratories by the Faculty of Engineering in January 1999 to facilitate technology transfer from the faculty to industry, and to help transformHong Kong into a hub for innovation and technology. More specifically, CINTEC’s missions are to: • emerge as an advanced applied research and development centre; • actively contribute to and collaborate with industry in the development of high-value-added technological activities and the identification of commercially relevant research topics; • provide high quality training for professionals in innovative research initiatives and engineering entrepreneurship; • foster greater collaboration with the mainland for the advancement of technology; • provide a synergistic environment leading to innovations and technology advancement. CINTEC consists of two branches. The technology development branch coordinates inter-departmental projects. It pools resources and expertise from various departments to engage in large-scale multi-disciplinary applied R & D projects, thereby advancing Hong Kong’s technology development. The Industrial Liaison Office is dedicated to enhancing the liaison between the faculty and industry so that research and industrial needs are well matched.
