Funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and organised by the Department of Social Work, CUHK, the CLAP@JC Community of Practice Session on “The Road to Entrepreneurship: Challenges and Opportunities for Non-engaged Youth to Uncover their Talents” was held successfully on 28 May 2021 via Zoom.

Over 100 participants from different parts of the world, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and the United States, attended the event.

It was an honour to have Ms. Dorothy Lam, Co-founder & Chief Catalyst of Dream Impact, Mr. Charlie Chan, Head of Youth and Community Service of Caritas & Co-Director (CLD Mainstreaming) of CLAP@JC, as well as Mr. Johnny Lo, Co-founder of Lin Heung House & Capacity Building Officer of CLAP@JC, as our guest speakers. They made inspiring presentations on how social enterprises develop their business models to engage youth, the difficulties and opportunities for at-risk youth in social entrepreneurship, as well as the start-up journey to integrate with ethnic minority in Hong Kong. The presentations were eye-opening and brought in different perspectives from a start-up incubator, a local NGO leader and a start-up founder respectively.

The insightful reflections from commentators Mrs. Helina Yuk, Co-founder of Social Work Mission and Mr. Stanley Ho, Co-founder of Society for Innovation and Technology in Social Work supplemented the presentations. Their sharing elaborated on the current ecology of social enterprises in Hong Kong, and how the start-up culture can be more supportive and inclusive for youth. Moreover, meaningful discussions were made, and participants actively raised questions and comments during the roundtable discussion.
