Seminar on “Face-to-face and Online Family Interventions for the Development of Adolescents with Intellectual Disabilities”

Jointly supported by Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance, Department of Social Work, CUHK, and Department of Social Work and Social Policy of the Renmin University of China, the monthly online seminar of Mainland-Hong Kong Multidisciplinary Disability Research Network was successfully held on 26 March 2022 (Saturday) via zoom.

Prof. MA Lai-chong, Joyce, and Dr. LO Wing Ka, Julia, from the Department of Social Work, CUHK, were invited to share the topic of “Face-to-face and Online Family Interventions for the development of adolescents with intellectual disabilities”. Prof. MA and Dr. LO shared the current situation of adolescents with intellectual disabilities in Hong Kong, and the significant issues experienced by families of adolescents with intellectual disabilities such as the challenges in caring for adolescents with intellectual disabilities, the stigmatization of adolescents with intellectual disabilities. Prof. MA and Dr. LO also shared their study on the in-person and online family interventions for adolescents with intellectual disabilities, and a fruitful discussion has been made.

Nearly 100 university students, researchers, and disability service practitioners participated in this seminar. This seminar enhanced the participants’ understanding of the current situation of adolescents with intellectual disabilities in Hong Kong and the in-person and online family therapy for adolescents with intellectual disabilities.
