Seminar on “Research on Wage Discrimination against People with Disabilities (PWDs) in China”

Jointly supported by Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance, Department of Social Work, CUHK, and School of Sociology and Population Studies of the Renmin University of China, the monthly online seminar of Mainland-Hong Kong Multidisciplinary Disability Research Network was successfully organized on 18 December 2021 (Saturday) on Zoom.

Prof. LIAO Juan from the School of Management, Capital Normal University, was invited to conduct a research seminar on the topic of “Research on Wage Discrimination against People with Disabilities (PWDs) in China”. In the seminar, Prof. LIAO shared her research on the issue of wage discrimination against PWDs. The research adopted the quantitative research method to investigate the wage gap between the PWDs and the able-bodied. Prof. LIAO also discussed the trend of wage discrimination against the PWDs in China and compared the wage discrimination against the PWDs in China with its foreign counterparts.

More than 90 participants, including students coming from CUHK and other universities, researchers, and practitioners of relevant backgrounds attended this seminar. All in all, this seminar improved the participants’ understanding of wage discrimination against PWDs in China.
