Seminar on “Mezzo-level Intervention: Promoting Workplace Inclusion for People with Disabilities (PWDs)”

Jointly supported by Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance, Department of Social Work, CUHK, and School of Sociology and Population Studies of the Renmin University of China, the monthly online seminar of Mainland-Hong Kong Multidisciplinary Disability Research Network was successfully organized on 19 February 2022 (Saturday) on Zoom.

Dr. KWAN Chi Kin, Assistant Professor, Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences of the City University of Hong Kong, was invited to conduct a research seminar on the topic of “Mezzo-level Intervention: Promoting Workplace Inclusion for People with Disabilities (PWDs)”. In the seminar, Dr. KWAN adopted a mezzo perspective to share a list of difficulties encountered by PWDs when integrating into the local society. In addition, he continued to talk about their current situation of local employment and discuss how social changes provide them with opportunities. Besides, adopting the Systems Theory to explore the social model of disability was also one of the themes in the seminar. Last but not least, he ended the seminar with some suggestions such as useful skills at the mezzo-level intervention, through the lens of some insightful case studies with remarkable outcomes.

More than 80 participants, including students coming from CUHK and other universities, researchers, and practitioners of relevant backgrounds, attended this seminar. All in all, this seminar not only improved the participants’ understanding of promoting workplace inclusion for PWDs but also provided the participants with useful suggestions to intervene at a mezzo level.
