Seminar on “Persons with Disabilities in the Digital Society – Current Situation, Activities and Social Impact”

Jointly supported by Beijing - Hong Kong Universities Alliance, Department of Social Work, CUHK, and School of Sociology and Population Studies, Renmin University of China, the monthly online seminar of Mainland – Hong Kong Multidisciplinary Disability Research Network (殘障研究華人青年學者網絡), was successfully held on 27 November 2021 (Saturday) via zoom.

Prof. QU Yuanyuan from School of Ethnology and Sociology, Minzu University of China was invited to share the topic on “Persons with Disabilities in the Digital Society – Current Situation, Activities and Social Impact (數字社會中的殘障群體:境況、行動與影響)”. Prof. QU shared her study on the impact of digital society on persons with disabilities. She explored the impact of technology, the change of production and lifestyle on disability group, her experience of studying the political, economic and cultural issues regarding these issues through virtual ethnography, content analysis together with qualitative interview.

Near 100 university students, researchers and disabilities service practitioners participated in this seminar. This seminar enhanced the participants’ knowledge regarding disability and digital age, and the impact of technology, the induced change of production and lifestyle among disability community in China.
