This course aims to provide students with an opportunity to examine some of the current issues and important developments in the social policy field, with the help of concepts and theories in social work and social policy, and in the context of Chinese societies under rapid socioeconomic transformation. For more in-depth understanding of and reflection on the aforementioned areas, a specific topic under the course will be selected for the students to take in their second year of studies. Topics for this course include social welfare administration, housing problems and policies, education problems and policies, family problems and policies, and youth problems and policies. Other issues and new developments in the social policy field may be added to meet the preferences of the students when this is deemed appropriate.
