Seminar on “Experiences and Needs of People with Mental Disorders in Parenting”

Jointly supported by Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance, Department of Social Work CUHK, Department of Social Work and Social Policy of the Renmin University of China, the monthly online seminar of Mainland-Hong Kong Multidisciplinary Disability Research Network was successfully held on 30 Apr 2022 (Saturday) via zoom.

Ms. CHEN Lingling, a Ph.D. candidate, from the Faculty of Education, Monash University was invited to share the topic of “Experiences and Needs of People with Mental Disorders in Parenting”. Ms. CHEN shared her research project which explored the experiences and needs of people with mental disorders in the parenting process. The detailed information about the project has been shown and presented by Ms. CHEN, such as the background of the project, literature review, methodology, and research findings. Suggestions have been discussed on how to support this group in parenting.

About 200 university students, researchers, and disability service practitioners participated in this seminar. Ms. CHEN delivered a meaningful seminar for the participants. This seminar increased the participants’ understanding of the experiences and needs of parents with mental disorders.
