Emergency Response Level – Inpatient and Day Procedure
(Effective date: 20 October 2022)
In response to the latest situation of COVID-19, CUHK Medical Centre (the Hospital) has adopted the following measures with effect from 20 October 2022:
COVID-19 Test Admission Screening for Inpatients and Patients receiving day procedures
Inpatient
Inpatients (never contracted or recovering from COVID-19 more than 3 months) are required to provide negative COVID-19 PCR test result within 2 days of admission.
Inpatients recovering from COVID-19 within 3 months:
Completed latest quarantine requirements of the Government of HKSAR
At least 10 days after symptom onset or 1st positive test (for asymptomatic persons)
Negative RAT (self-test)* on day of admission (for inpatients recovering from COVID-19 within 3 months only)
Patients receiving day procedures and their companion
Negative RAT (self-test)* on day of procedures or negative COVID-19 PCR test result within 2 days of procedures
For patients who have recovered from COVID-19
Completed latest quarantine requirements of the Government of HKSAR
At least 10 days after symptom onset or 1st positive test (for asymptomatic persons)
The Hospital will provide free COVID-19 testing service for patients with scheduled admission or performing mask off procedures. (Not applicable to HA service deed patients)
For emergency admission, COVID-19 testing service will be charged.
Ward Visiting Arrangement
Visiting Hours: 09:00 – 21:00
Visiting Duration: 2 hours per visitor
Visitor Limit: Up to 2 persons per day
Visitors of inpatients should provide a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result which is obtained within 2 days.
For repeated or regular visits, visitors should provide negative COVID-19 PCR test results twice a week.
- Requirements for visitors who have recovered from COVID-19:
- Completed latest quarantine requirements of the Government of HKSAR
- At least 10 days after symptom onset or 1st positive test (for asymptomatic persons)
- Negative RAT (self-test)* on day of visit (For visitors recovering from COVID-19 within 3 months only)
- For visitors recovering from COVID-19 more than 3 months, PCR test is required
- Maintain good personal and hand hygiene practices at all times.
- Perform hand hygiene before leaving the patient room by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
- No eating or drinking during visits, and do not remove the surgical mask at any time inside the hospital.
- Maintain appropriate social distancing during visits.
- For the sake of patient and visitor safety, ward visits are not allowed for the following persons:
Persons who are symptomatic such as fever, respiratory symptoms or sudden loss of smell/ taste at the time of visiting
Persons under quarantine, including quarantine at home, hotel, residential care home for elderlies/ disabled
Persons under compulsory testing notice and have not completed the series of rapid antigen tests (RAT) or PCR tests, or persons who have completed the test(s) but cannot provide the negative COVID-19 test result(s)
Inpatient Companion Arrangement
Visitors of inpatients who want to stay overnight should provide a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result which is obtained within 2 days.
For repeated or regular visits, visitors should provide negative COVID-19 PCR test results twice a week.

- Completed latest quarantine requirements of the Government of HKSAR
- At least 10 days after symptom onset or 1st positive test (for asymptomatic persons)
- Negative RAT (self-test)* on day of visit (For companions recovering from COVID-19 within 3 months only)
- For companions recovering from COVID-19 more than 3 months, PCR test is required
*Note: RAT kit must be among the recognised RAT kits listed on the Government website.
