follow the following steps to access 
oracle

1. log into 
   
   sparc2.cse.cuhk.edu.hk 

   you need to be connecting from a 
   machine within cuhk. if you are 
   outside, use vpn. 

2. add the following line at the end of 
   file ".cshrc" under your root 
   directory:

   source /usr/local/oracle8i/setup

3. log out and back in again for the 
   above line to take effects. now you 
   can start oracle with

   $ sqlplus [your username]@db12

   you will then be prompted to input
   your password.

change your password to keep others
out of your account.

connecting from outside cuhk
==========

you need to first log into the gateway
server of the CSE department:

	gw.cse.cuhk.edu.hk      

After login, type the following to 
connect to the sparc2 server:

	ssh sparc2
