CUHK Receives Funding to Strengthen and Promote Youth Entrepreneurship in the Greater Bay Area
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) received dedicated funding from the Funding Scheme for Youth Entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the Scheme) under the Youth Development Fund, taking a step further its entrepreneurial support to local youngsters.
At a press conference marking the inauguration of the Scheme today (26 February), Professor Sham Mai Har, CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice President and Choh-Ming Li Professor of Biomedical Sciences, received a certificate from the Chief Executive Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor in recognition of the University’s commitment to fostering youth entrepreneurship across and beyond the campus.
Professor Sham stated, “I am grateful that CUHK is one of the funded organsations to promote youth entrepreneurship. With all the support under the Scheme, we anticipate that more members of the University will be able to explore the Greater Bay Area (GBA) market and opportunities, through entrepreneurial bases at CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute (SZRI). This will achieve one of the missions of the University which is to transfer knowledge and research findings into practical use and to contribute to the community.”
Start-up training and seed fund for CUHK members
Partnering with the Shenzhen government and the China Academy of Sciences since 2006, CUHK has been participating in the collaboration connecting academia, research and industry in Shenzhen. The University subsequently established the InnoHub in SZRI and a pre-incubation centre in Foshan, providing new platforms and incubation services for CUHK members who are looking for opportunities in the GBA.
Under the new Scheme, CUHK will offer up to HK$600,000 to successful teams of students and professors to launch and expand their businesses in strategic industries. In addition, the teams will be provided practical training, mentorship support and business opportunities to explore the GBA market via its start-up base at InnoHub in SZRI and the pre-incubation centre in Foshan.
