The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) today (24 March) received a generous donation of 10,000 COVID-19 rapid antigen tests from C-MER Eye Care Holdings Limited. The tests will be distributed to frontline staff and students, and will be essential in protecting the health of the university community and ensuring the continuity of campus operations.

Professor Rocky S. Tuan, CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President, acknowledged and thanked C-MER Eye Care for their donation. Professor Tuan said, “I am most thankful for the care and support to the University from valued friends and partners like C-MER. The generous donations and words of encouragement are equally important in supporting our ongoing effort in the fight against the pandemic. We will continue to work hand in hand with our community to ride out the challenge.”

Dr. Dennis Lam, President & CEO, C-MER Eye Care Holdings Limited, said, “We know that CUHK Medical Centre has done a lot of work in receiving patients, nucleic acid testing, and vaccination during the epidemic. C-MER hopes to support CUHK by donating this batch of rapid antigen tests. We hope the epidemic will be under control and that the lives of Hong Kong people will return to normal as soon as possible.”

CUHK has promptly responded to society’s pressing needs during the pandemic.  CUHKMC has set up a step-down facility for recovering COVID positive cases, and provided a bespoke service to cater for patients experiencing mild symptoms, alleviating pressure on public hospitals. CUHKMC has also admitted non-COVID patients from the public system, established a new PCR testing centre, and taken responsibility for a mobile children’s vaccination service. Furthermore, the CUHKMC community vaccination centre has administered more than half a million jabs over the past twelve months providing a critical immune defence for people in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Medicine continues to provide expert advice to government, release world-class COVID-19 research, and support the day-to-day response to the pandemic. More than 1000 of the Faculty’s staff and students have been mobilised in the fight against COVID-19, targeting frontline patient care services, supporting the Hospital Authority hotline, community testing, online Chinese medicine consultations for care homes, and the Kowloon City vaccination programme targeting 2,000 residents.
