The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was ranked in the world’s top 50 universities in 2022 in nine academic subjects by ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), three more subjects than last year. The subjects in which CUHK features in the top 50 are biomedical engineering, computer science and engineering, nursing, telecommunication engineering, finance, automation and control, physics, electrical and electronic engineering, energy science and engineering; four of which ranked first in Hong Kong (please refer to the appendix for the ranking details).

The GRAS, published by ShanghaiRanking, a higher education accreditation organisation, features rankings of universities in 54 subjects across sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. It includes more than 1,800 out of 5,000 universities across 90 countries and regions. The GRAS uses a range of international academic indicators to measure the performance of world universities in the various subjects, including international academic awards, research output, research quality and international collaboration.
