Research Profile - Professor Baoting Zhang
Professor Baoting Zhang's research team is one of leading team in skeletal muscle research in Hong Kong. The research interest of Professor Zhang's team has been focused on the molecular mechanisms exploration and potential therapeutic target discovery in musculoskeletal disorders. Professor Zhang's team has identified a series of muscle atrophy-related long noncoding RNAs, which have important roles in regulating skeletal muscle anabolism and catabolism, respectively. Moreover, Professor Zhang has explored the biological function of the key mediators during the pathological progress of musculoskeletal disorders from the structural basis. The new molecular understandings of the key mediators could help to provide novel therapeutic strategies to counteract musculoskeletal disorders with fewer safety concerns.
As Principal Investigator, Professor Zhang has successfully secured a series of research grants from Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hospital Authority of Hong Kong, Innovation and Technology Commission of Hong Kong and Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality. The work of Professor Zhang's research team has been published in a series of international journals with high impact factor (IF), including Nature Medicine (IF: 53.440), Advanced Science (IF: 16.806), Nature Communications (IF: 14.919), Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle (IF: 12.910), Biomaterials (IF: 12.479), Molecular Therapy (IF: 11.454) and Aging Cell (IF: 9.304).
