Dr. Paul Ip has extensive research experience in quality control of Chinese medicines. His research team has been participating in The Hong Kong Chinese Materia Medica Standards (HKCMMS) project since its beginning in 2002 and has contributed significantly to the implementation of the project. Up to now, the research team has undertaken 65 projects for HKCMMS with a total research funding of more than HK$40 million. Services on authentication and chemical analysis of Chinese medicines have been constantly provided to Hospital Authority and traders of Chinese medicines. The research team has collaborated with many local and oversea research teams on research projects. Accumulatively, more than HK$83 million have been funded for these research activities.

Dr. Ip has published over 100 scientific papers with a current H-index of 34 (up to 2020). He has been appointed as a member of Examination Committee, The Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong and a Technical Assessor of Hong Kong Accreditation Service.
