I love teaching and that is the reason why I decided to study the ELED programme.Through this programme, not only am I exposed to various teaching methodologies to cater for individual differences, I am encouraged to think from the students’ perspectives.

The ELED programme provides a good balance of courses to prepare me to become a professional, confident language teacher. Thanks to the many experiential learning activities organised by the programme, like teaching practice, study trip and the overseas immersion programme, I have precious opportunities to learn about teaching outside of university classrooms.

Not only has this double degree programme enriched my subject knowledge and enhanced my metalinguistic awareness, it has also enabled me to develop an individualized teaching philosophy and incorporate theories as well as pedagogies into my own teaching practice.

Going on an exchange programme is definitely one of the best, rewarding moments in my life. Traced back to the time when I was studying in Canada, my English proficiency was greatly enhanced. I could also learn more Canadians’ slangs and thus having a better understanding of their cultures.

Going on exchange certainly enriches our knowledge and enhances our interpersonal skills. While the precious teaching experiences offered by the ELED programme have equipped us with practical teaching techniques, exchange opportunities further help us become a well-rounded individual.

If you ask someone who has been to an exchange programme, one of the biggest benefits they would tell you will be ‘meeting different people’. It is indeed true that you will have loads of opportunities to meet not only local people but also people from all over the world. That being said, I believe that the greatest gift from an exchange programme is self-exploration. All in all, I am so glad that I have made the decision to come and enjoyed my exchange with no regrets.
