Led by Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and coordinated by the Office of Academic Links (China), a 10-member delegation comprising Prof. Jack C.Y. Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, SBS Director; Prof. Fung Kwok-Pui and Prof. Yung Wing-Ho as well as representatives of various units of the University visited Yunnan on 4 and 5 June 2012 to strengthen academic collaborations with the partner institutions there. Apart from signing a collaborative agreement with Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department to foster long-term partnership between CUHK and the research institutions in Yunnan, our School also signed with the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) a renewed collaborative agreement for refining the developmental directions of the Joint Laboratory of Bio-resources and Molecular Research of Common Diseases. More details on this delegation visit can be foundHERE as covered by the Office of Academic Links (China).
On 16-17 August 2012, Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences, led a 10-member delegation comprising representatives from the School of Biomedical Sciences (including Prof. C.H. Cho, Prof. Stephen K.W. Tsui, Prof. Lee Tin-lap, Prof. Feng Bo, Prof. Wan Chao, Prof. Xia Yin and Prof. Zhao Hui), Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (Prof. David S.C. Hui) as well as Department of Chemical Pathology (Prof. Nelson L.S. Tang) to have a follow-up visit to the KIZ, CAS. During the visit, representatives from both sides shared their latest research findings in a joint scientific symposium, followed by group meetings to discuss the various opportunities for collaborative research under the framework of the Joint Laboratory of Bio-resources and Molecular Research of Common Diseases.
It is believed that these two visits have further consolidated the existing collaborative endeavours with KIZ, CAS, hence facilitating our School, the Faculty of Medicine and the University in building up stronger scholarly connections and more frequent academic exchange with the academics in Southwestern China.
