The Agreement Signing and Opening Ceremony of the "Joint Research Laboratory for Promoting Globalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine" was held in Shanghai in the afternoon of 31 March 2011. This Joint Laboratory has been established by the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) which aims to advocate the applications of traditional Chinese medicine and to promote innovative research and development in the globalization of traditional Chinese medicine.
Prof. Wai-Yee Chan, SBS Director and Prof. Ge Lin, Director of the said Joint Laboratory, together with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Henry Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Ching-Ping Wong, Dean of Engineering; Prof. Cheuk-Yiu Ng, Dean of Science; Ms. Wing Wong and Ms. Samantha Wong, Office of Academic Links (China) attended the Ceremony. Officiated by Prof. Joseph Sung, Prof. Henry Wong and Prof. Hualiang Jiang, Deputy Director of SIMM, signed the agreement on behalf of respective sides.
In the morning of the same day, Prof. Joseph Sung also signed a collaboration agreement on behalf of CUHK with CAS Shanghai Branch and officiated at the plaque-unveiling ceremony of the "CUHK-CAS Shanghai Branch Collaboration Centre". Being a significant milestone of the collaborative effort between CUHK and CAS Shanghai Branch, the "CUHK-CAS Shanghai Branch Collaboration Centre" will play a vital role in coordinating all research projects under the collaboration framework between CUHK and CAS Shanghai Branch. As one of the joint initiatives taken under the framework between CUHK and CAS Shanghai Branch, the "Joint Research Laboratory for Promoting Globalization of Traditional Chinese Medicines" will further promote stronger partnership between CUHK and CAS Shanghai.
