Announcement

  • Tutorials will start from the 2nd week. No tutorials in this week.
  • Quiz 1 will hold in class on Sept 18. The covers are up to the updated lectures.
  • Reminder: In our lecture, a normal vector of a plane may not be a unit vector
  • The due date for Homework 03 has been changed to October 6.
  • Quiz Two will hold in class on Oct 9. The covers are Lecture Note 04 to Lecture Note 07 below.
  • As announced in class, the Mid-term Test has changed to Oct 30 (Thursday, 9th week). The time and place are 5:30pm-6:15pm and in the lecture room (LT3 LSB), and the covers are ALL contents from Lecture 01 to Lecture 09; see below.
  • The place for Mid-term Test has been changed to SC L1 (Science Centre, Lecture Theatre 1) in order to make sure to have at least one empty seat next to each of you. The time is still 5:30pm-6:15pm on Oct 30 (Thur.). Please come for the test about five minutes earlier.
  • Quiz THREE will hold in class on Nov. 13. The covers are Lecture Note 10 to Lecture Note 12 below.
  • No need to hand in Homework 11 below! Suggested solutions to this homework will be provided by the end of Nov 27.

Course Description

Functions of several variables, partial differentiation, differential and its geometric meaning, chain rule, maxima and minima, Lagrange multiplier, mean value theorem, Taylor series, and implicit function theorem.
