Prof. Chan Wai-yee has recently been appointed as a Non-official Director of the Hong Kong Genome Institute (HKGI) for a term of two years from 5 November 2020.

The HKGI is a newly established private company limited by guarantee and wholly owned by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) with an aim of implementing the Hong Kong Genome Project (HKGP). The HKGP is a large-scale genome sequencing project, with the pilot phase focusing on patients and their family members with undiagnosed disorders and hereditary cancers, under which 40,000 to 50,000 genomes would be sequenced to aid diagnoses or clinical management. The appointment not only recognises Prof. Chan’s exceptional academic standing but also his remarkable contributions to the field of genetic research.
