Exhibition: Archiving Hong Kong Literature: The 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Literature Collection at CUHK Library
The CUHK Library, with the support of Professor Lo Wai-luen (Xiao Si), established the Hong Kong Literature Collection and the Hong Kong Literature Database by creatively linking up researchers’ personal collections and the Library resources. After years of collection, expansion and promotion, the two has formed a research platform of academic and social significance. To mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Literature Collection, this exhibition showcases over a hundred selected items of Hong Kong literary history and uses the concept of “archiving” to encourage thought on instances of trace-leaving and preservation in daily life. Besides the obvious, “Hong Kong literature” also covers Hong Kong culture, the emotional landscape of Hong Kong literati, and the nature of Hong Kong civilization. There are four zones in the exhibition: Rare Books, Newspapers and Magazines, Writers’ Possession, and Digital Starry Sky. Visitors can rummage through the drawers of Hong Kong’s literary memory, engage with history through books and periodicals, partake of writers’ wisdom and interests, and survey the vastness, order and novelty of the world of digital humanities. A series of workshops will be conducted during the exhibition period. For details, please click here. Guided tours will be arranged for groups of at least 10 people.
