Arranged in the opening day of the special exhibition, “Glistening Treasures in the Dust – Ancient Artefacts of Afghanistan,” this fieldwork to the Hong Kong Museum of History aimed to bring worldwide visions and comparative perspectives to students. Through reading rare goldware, bronze sculptures, and other artefacts from the National Museum of Afghanistan, students could have a deep appreciation of cultural diversity, transregional exchange, and integration of global civilisations. From these cherished relics that have escaped the clutches of the Taliban terrorists, students were able to appreciate the significance of heritage conservation, management, as well as transnational cultural collaboration. Another purpose of this trip was to visit the permanent gallery (Hong Kong Story), for students to gain a more comprehensive and heartfelt understanding of the “Pearl of the Orient,” especially the ups and downs of this beautiful and strong city.

Warehouse in the Art Museum, CUHK
日期:2019年10月30日
Guided by Prof. Peng Peng, students had a selective examination of representative ancient Chinese ritual bronzes in the warehouse of CUHK Art Museum. Via this systematic and multi-pronged training, they learnt how to conduct visual observation, analytic analysis, label writing, comprehensive object study, as well as various curatorial tasks. Based on two or multiple chosen artworks, students passionately discussed the significances and implications of what they had discovered. All students have finally finished a critical analysis of their target bronzes in comparative perspectives. Some of these academic works, honestly speaking, are potentially publishable.

Osage Gallery presents Prof. Jeffrey Shaw’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. During the field trip, Prof. Shaw gave a tour to our students concerning his fifty years of practice. It provides a rare opportunity for our students to experience an overview and insight into the core technical, aesthetic and conceptual themes that have preoccupied Prof. Shaw's creative research. These include public participation and interaction, expanded cinema and immersive visualization, the aesthetics of navigable representations and emergent narrative, new media and computational techniques and virtual and augmented reality. The tour also inspires our students concerning how new media is adopted in preserving and presenting local heritage.
