Project Objectives
This project aims to conduct a formal pilot run of PASS (Peer Assisted Study Session), with a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of how PASS works in the context of CUHK, and how CUHK students may be best benefited from it.
Description of process, outcomes or deliverables
Process: (1) implementing PASS in nine courses offered by the General Education Foundation (GEF) Programme and the Faculty of Medicine; and (2) evaluating PASS by a questionnaire survey as well as focus group and interview studies.
Outcomes: (1) PASS can enhance students’ subject knowledge, study skills, confidence and motivation, and transition into university; and (2) PASS can also enhance PASS Leaders’ communication, leadership and teamwork skills.
Deliverables: (1) an evaluation report of PASS at CUHK, and (2) a website about PASS.
Evaluation
The implementation of PASS is evaluated by the following means: (1) a questionnaire survey for all PASS participants; (2) a focus group study targeted on the GEF students who have participated in PASS; and (3) an interview study with the GEF PASS Leaders.
Dissemination, diffusion and impact
We gave presentations in seminars and conferences and produced a website about PASS. In September 2016, the existing PASS in GEF will be upgraded to the new PASS 2.0 scheme which offers additional PASS sessions tailor-made for the teacher’s class schedule and specific needs. A working group on PASS has been established to develop PASS 2.0. The Faculty of Medicine planned to increase the number of courses supported by PASS and also increase the number of PASS sessions in the coming academic year.
