Call for Applications: ACU Early Career Researcher Training Grants & Early Career Conference Grants 2023

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is calling for applications for the Early Career Researcher Training Grants and the Early Career Conference Grants.

 


Early Career Researcher Training Grants 2023 (Deadline: 8 November 2022, 7:59am HKT)

The Early Career Researcher Training Grants support staff at ACU member universities, including CUHK, to organise and deliver training for their early career researchers. The training must take place between February and July 2023. A total of 10 grants will be offered, with a maximum amount of GBP 1,000 each.

Eligibility
CUHK staff who leads on providing training for early career researchers can apply. Applicants can define an early career researcher by the internal criteria of their faculty/department/unit. Doctoral candidates must be included in the training, which must also be made available to early career researchers from multiple disciplines.

Application Requirements
Below are some of the highlighted requirements for the application:

  • The application must state the target audience and the number of people who will benefit, including whether any training will be accessible by other ACU members.
  • One output of the training (e.g. videos, presentations, tool-kits) must be shareable with other ACU members.

Interested parties should first register for a MyACU account and log in to the system to access the application form. Application should be submitted with the required information by 8 November 2022, 7:59am HKT.

Early Career Conference Grants 2023 (Deadline: 29 November 2022, 7:59am HKT)

The Early Career Conference Grants support emerging academics who have never travelled for work purposes (including conferences) outside their region of employment since the start of their academic career to take part in an international conference. This year’s grants will fund participation in virtual or in-person conferences which take place between 1 April and 30 September 2023.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be employed by an ACU member university, including CUHK, as a lecturer, post-doctoral researcher, professor, associate professor, or equivalent.
  • Be within seven years of the start of their academic (research/teaching) career.
  • Have not previously travelled for work purposes (including conferences) outside their region of employment since the start of their academic career.
  • Not be a previous recipient of an ACU Early Career Conference Grant (previously known as Early Career Academic Grants).

Scope of Support

Virtual conferences In-person conferences
  • Conference registration fee of up to GBP 600
  • A data grant of GBP 50 who do not have reliable access to Wi-Fi
  • Free access to a half-day training session on how to deliver great virtual presentations
  • A maximum of GBP 2,000 to cover conference registration fee, flights, accommodation, visa costs, travel and health insurance and COVID-19 testing required for travel

Remarks:

  • Before applying, applicants must first research the border restrictions and COVID-19 vaccine and testing requirements of the country where the conference is hosted. Applicants will need to confirm that they are able to travel to their chosen conference without being required to quarantine, if successful.
  • Must select a conference outside of their country of employment.
