ACU Commonwealth Climate Resilience Challenge Grants

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is currently inviting applications for the Commonwealth Climate Resilience Challenge Grants. The grants are awarded to academic and professional staff at ACU member universities, including CUHK, to support initiatives addressing climate resilience.

Scope of support

The grants support collaborative work with a focus on strengthening the climate resilience of universities and/or enhancing universities’ contribution to the resilience of communities, business and government.

Four grants of up to GBP 2,500 each are available. The grants can be used for a diverse range of projects, workshops, and events in areas such as:

  • Improving learning, teaching, and training for climate change adaptation
  • Increasing the research capacity of Commonwealth Climate Resilience Network members in climate change adaptation
  • Improving institutional resilience policies and practice adopted by Commonwealth universities

The project should cover a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months.

Applicants are encouraged to collaborate with other ACU member universities to promote further Commonwealth partnerships. Applications that are led by ACU members but are in partnership with institutions outside the network are also accepted.

Application

Interested parties should first register for a MyACU account and log in to the system to access the application form. Application should be submitted with the required information by 7 January 2022.

Ernst Mach Grant for PhD Students and Post-Docs

The Ernst Mach Grant is inviting applications from PhD students and post-docs for a research scholarship for 2022-23. The grant provides support to PhD students and post-docs undertaking short-term research attachments at universities in Austria.

Terms of Award

  • Duration of visit: 1-9 months
  • Value of award:
    • €1,050 per month for PhD students
    • €1,150 per month for post-docs
  • The award is meant to cover accident and health insurance, accommodation, visa, daily-life and travel expenditures. Recipients may receive an additional travel subsidy of up to €1,000.
  • Recipients are exempted from tuition fees.
  • The OeAD (Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation) can provide logistic support on health insurance as well as accommodation.

Eligibility

For PhD students:

  • Be registered as a PhD student at CUHK at the time of application and during the visit

For post-docs:

  • Hold a PhD degree
  • Hold an academic position at CUHK at the time of application and during the visit

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must not have studied/pursued research or academic work in Austria in the last six months before taking up the award
  • Applicants should be born on or after 1 Oct 1986
  • The scholarships will only be awarded for projects that can be completed within the approved period
