Fostering collaborative research through WUN Research Development Fund

Results of the Worldwide Universities Network Research Development Fund (WUN RDF) were announced in mid-December 2019. CUHK achieved great success in the RDF with two submissions awarded (out of 31 applications). The RDF provides seed funding to foster research collaborations among WUN members in four Global Challenges, namely Global Higher Education and Research, Responding to Climate Change, Public Health (Non-communicable Disease), and Understanding Cultures. Exploratory activities such as workshops, visits, and exchanges are supported.

The two selected projects led by CUHK researchers are:

• ‘Low-Carbon Transport, Individual Wellbeing and Planetary Health in the Era of Smart Cities and New Mobilities’ led by Prof. Sylvia He, Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Resource Management. Collaborating WUN institutions in this project include the Universities of Auckland, Bristol, Leeds, and Sydney.
• ‘Integrating Health and Social Care Services to Tackle Asia’s Ageing Population and Rise in Chronic and Multi-Morbidity: Global Developments and Lessons’ led by Prof. Benjamin H.K. Yip, Assistant Professor, The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care. Collaborating WUN institutions in this project include the Universities of Bergen, Sydney, and York, plus Renmin University of China and Zhejiang University.

In addition, seven CUHK researchers are involved in five projects led by four WUN member universities covering all four Global Challenges.
