Fibroid micro-wave ablation
Micro-wave ablation (MWA) is a minimally invasive method in the treatment of uterine fibroids. It is currently done under research setting, in collaboration with the Department of Imaging and Interventional Radiology.
MWA is done by interventional radiologist under ultrasound guidance, a needle will be inserted transabdominally into the fibroid, and micro-wave energy will be transmitted to the fibroid for ablation.
MWA if less invasive, not necessary for anaesthesia, less blood loss, and thus patient could recover quicker and return to normal daily living almost immediately.
