ABOUT
OVERVIEW
The Holy Grail of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research is to enable the computer to see, listen, and understand the world in a similar way as humans. While the goal of a self-aware and cognitive computer has yet to be attained, AI has unquestionably demonstrated tremendous progress and capabilities in recent years. Today, AI-enabled applications are pervasive. For example, decision-support systems incorporating AI can effectively assist clinicians in medical diagnoses. In an urban context, a visual intelligence platform can make decisions based on traffic flow analytics and pedestrian behaviour to inform real-time interventions in transportation.
To realise the promise of AI and achieve transformative benefits for our society, the Chinese University of Hong Kong has established the Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII).
VISIOn
& MISSION
Vision
To realise the promise of AI and achieve transformative benefits for society.
Mission
Targeting the sectors of healthcare, urban services and reindustrialization, CPII is running research programmes covering Visual Intelligence as well as Speech & Language Intelligence. CPII will also develop applications for Vision- and Language- based Healthcare AI, Vision-based Urban Services, and AI-Enabled Design and Automation.
WORDS FROM DIRECTOR
"By conducting and deploying cutting-edge research for impactful applications spanning across several strategic areas, CPII hopes to confront some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Meanwhile, it will create strong differentiation and value propositions for industries in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, to innovatively transform many existing processes and services, into an entirely new space,"
