Supplementary information

Young branches flat and ridged. Petiole winged on both two sides laterally, obcordate. Wings 2–4 × 0.5–3 cm. Flower buds pale purplish red, rarely milky white. Calyx irregularly 3–5-lobed. Styles thick and long; stigma slightly larger than ovary. Pericarp thick, spongy; the segments 10–15(–19), pulp white, pink or fresh red, rarely milky yellow. Areas south of Changjiang River (cultivated); widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions.
