Type 2 diabetes in different age groups
The incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes continue to grow globally. Many population-based studies focused on reporting the prevalence data and only a few of them examined the incidence of diabetes. The study “Secular trends in incidence of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in Hong Kong: A retrospective cohort study” described the secular trend of type 1 and type 2 diabetes incidence in Hong Kong from 2002 to 2015. It revealed that incidence of type 2 diabetes increased in people aged <40 years and remained constant in people aged ≥40 years. Moreover, incidence of type 1 diabetes continued to climb in people aged <20 years but was stable in other age groups.
