This one-year part-time programme aims to equip scientific
and health care professionals with a sound understanding of the latest advances
in diabetes research and therapeutics as well as practical skills to facilitate
them to manage and educate patients with diabetes more effectively.
At the end of the programme, graduates will have an in-depth understanding of:
- The scientific principles underlying the regulation of glucose homeostasis and insulin action
- The effective use of the currently available diagnostic and therapeutic agents for diabetes management
- The rationale for therapeutic patient education, empowerment and behavior modification
- The importance of the organization of care with particular emphasis on evidence-based medicine and continuous quality improvement
- The latest advances in diabetes basic and clinical research and their complementary roles in improving diabetes care
- The interpretation of published data and the critical appraisal of diabetes-related literature
- The application of research methodologies for studying diabetes and related subject
