1. Questions related to appointments

a. Can I change an already booked appointment?

Yes, please make any changes or cancellation as soon as possible and not later than two days before the scheduled day. This help us to allocate your appointment to other users.

b. What to do if I forget my already booked appointment?

Please call us to check it. You are however advised to keep your appointment card as record for all appointments and related information.

2. Questions related to dental surgery, such as wisdom tooth removal

a. Should my wisdom tooth/teeth be removed?

This has to be assessed individually. Please make an appointment for dental check-up to discuss with the dentist.

b. Will there be lots of discomfort after tooth removal?

  •     Depending on the degree of complication of the process, there will be post-operative pain that can usually be controlled by pain-killer.
  •     There may also be different degree of swelling and bruising of skin near the operated part. This will gradually subside in about 3 to 5 days.

c. What to prepare before the extraction visit?

  •     Confirm your appointment ahead if you are asked to do so. Plan for adjustment of your activities after surgery, like avoid exercises or important meetings, and arrange leave if needed.
  •     Take meal beforehand, and take the medicine if you are given prior to treatment.
  •     Inform us any special health conditions like Heart diseases, High blood pressure or Drug allergy.

d. What should I do or not to do after the removal?

  •     Bite on clean gauze for 30 minutes to stop bleeding.
  •     Do not spit or rinse your mouth for the rest of the day.
  •     Do not eat hot or coarse food.
  •     Do not drink alcohol.
  •     Do not take strenuous exercise.
  •     Avoid hurting your lip or tongue when local anaesthesia is still working.
  •     Take the medicine and have mouthrinse according to instruction.
  •     Resume normal oral hygiene practices the next day.

e. What to do if bleeding after extraction

  •     Rinse carefully, and bite firmly onto piece of clean gauze for further 30 minutes.
  •     If this does not help, keep calm, inform our staff or, if it is after office-hour, go to the nearby hospital.

3. Questions related to filling

a. Is it normal if I feel discomfort after I received filling?

There may be some sensitivity after filling a deep cavity. If this does not go away after a few days, contact our staff to arrange for an appointment.

b. I guess my temporary material has fallen out

Temporary instead of permanent type of material may be used in certain procedures. Superficial part of this material might gradually worn away without any problem. If you worry that it has dropped out, check yourself or by another person whether the temporary material is still inside the cavity. Make an appointment if it has completely lost or if you are not certain.

a. There is no orthodontic treatment provided in this clinic.

5. Miscellaneous questions

a. There is bleeding after I received scaling.

It is not uncommon to have bleeding if there is already some existing gum swelling and inflammation. This will gradually stop. You can resume normal oral hygiene practice.

b. Is mouthrinse, special toothbrushing aids available?

Our dentists or hygienists may prescribe mouthrinse or special hygiene aid for individual’s need. You may however purchase these items as refill (in small quantity) in our clinic.

7. What is Dental Hygienist

Our dental hygienists are licensed dental professional registered under DENTISTS REGISTRATION ORDINANCE (Chapter 156) ANCILLARY DENTAL WORKERS (DENTAL HYGIENTS) REGULATIONS.

They are a primary healthcare professional who works independent of, or alongside dentists and other dental professionals in a team to provide full oral health care.

They have the training and education that focus and specialize in the prevention and treatment of oral disease.

Role of Dental Hygienists

As provided for under regulation 6 of the Ancillary Dental Workers (Dental Hygienists) Regulations, an enrolled dental hygienist may undertake dental work following kinds-

(a) The cleaning and polishing of teeth

(b) The scaling of teeth

(c) The application of fluoride treatment to the teeth

(d) Taking x-ray images of teeth.

(e) The giving of advices on matter relating to dental hygiene

8. What is OPG X-Ray

The Dental Unit has installed a Digital OPG (OrthoPantomoGram) X-ray machine.  The machine provides a clear, excellent quality image of the full mouth panoramic view.  Diagnosis and treatment planning is enhanced effectively and efficiently.  With the installation of OPG X-ray machine in the Dental Unit, patients no longer need to travel to outside imaging centers to take the OPG x-ray, thereby saving time and money for patients.
