On 7 July 1978, Dr. Choh-Ming Li (3rd right, on stage), the founding Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, laid the foundation stone for the University’s basic medical sciences building which upon his retirement was named after him. The building commanded views of hilly and sparsely populated Ma On Shan. Today, one can hardly see Ma On Shan from the same angle, but we all know it is littered with high-rise buildings and at night, ablaze with lights.
