Ms. Juanita Cheung Awarded ‘The Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award’

The 78th Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees of the University was held on 19 November 2015, during which Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, presided over the congregation and conferred bachelor’s and master’s degrees. More than 100 S.H. Ho College graduates attended the ceremony. In the ceremonial occasion, our College member Ms. Juanita Cheung, was awarded The Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2014 for her outstanding teaching performance.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award Scheme was launched in the year 1999 to give recognition to outstanding teachers. Every year, each Faculty can nominate at least one teacher for the award whose performance in teaching is considered excellent in the eyes of students and other teaching staff. The award serves not only as recognition of the contributions of the awardees in the area of teaching, but also reflects the University’s commitment to providing quality education. In the congregation, Ms. Juanita Cheung, was awarded The Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2014 for her outstanding teaching performance in Sports Science and Physical Education. Having received the award, Ms. Cheung wrote a message on how she perceived her role as an educator.

As an educator, I constantly contemplate the truth of education. To my belief, education aims to guide the learners to explore the world of knowledge, discern oneself through various sources of learning experience and apply the knowledge and experience they have acquired to real-life practices, to further extent, to stand society in good stead for a prosperous future. Teachers endeavor to share good practices and offer sound learning experience for their students so as to enlighten them to achieve their goals.

Throughout my education journey, I have been inspired, impressed and heartened by my fellow colleagues with passion and goals in education. Serving in the education sector for almost fifteen years, I dedicate myself to teaching as my lifelong pursuit. I, for all time, reflect my role as an educator for the good sake of students. As “teaching is infectious”, I strongly believe every effort we make will influence one another, and make a world of difference. Despite education nowadays is far more challenging, with our concerted efforts, passion and resilience, education could lead us to a brighter future.

In the honour of receiving the Vice-Chancellor Exemplary Teaching Award last year, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my colleagues and students of the department, faculty and S.H. Ho College for their unfailing support and encouragement. The Award does give me a surprise and mark recognition with pride and gratification. It adds strength to me and further enhances the impetus in the pursuit of my ideal in education. With faith and perseverance at the helm, I will pursue my dreams in the teaching career and strive for excellence.
