Lt. Governor Brings Californian Experience to CUHK John Garamendi (above left), Lieutenant Governor of California, visited CUHK to speak on 'California's Response to the Challenge of Global Climate Change: Lessons for Chinese Provinces' on 8 October 2007. He discussed the impacts of climate change on California and described environment-related regulations and the efforts of local governments and private industry to curb greenhouse gas emissions. He also discussed the pressing need for local, regional and international bodies to harmonize their efforts to reduce greenhouse gases. Native Species Enhance Biodiversity The trees planted under the CUHK Afforestation Scheme will mainly be native species, such as the Chinese Guger-tree, Hong Kong Hawthorn, Hong Kong Gordonia and Thick-leaved Oak.
