Final Formal Hall of the 2014-2015 Academic Year

2015年416日

Last night the College held a Formal Hall dinner to commemorate the close of another academic year. At the dinner, Professor Sir James Mirrlees came to the stage to speak about inequality, how to assess it, and its potential impact on happiness in different nations. Using such examples as Scotland and Northern Europe, the talk illustrated the various dilemmas involved in reconciling the wealth inequality gap and encouraged students to think critically about challenges faced by today’s policy makers. Professor Mirrlees also included a brief farewell to graduating students, as well as a kind send off to one of Morningside’s Physical Education Lecturers, Sammy Liu, who is retiring after this term. After goodbyes were said and photos were taken, the dinner concluded on a sweet note with dessert, chocolate cake with pear compote on the side. Many thanks to those in attendance, and may all have an enjoyable summer break!
