First Formal Hall of 2015-2016 Spring Term

2016年218日

The first formal hall of the spring term was held yesterday evening in the Dining Hall. Morningside Fellows and students enjoyed a rich and diverse meal inspired by the Chinese New Year festival.

Following the meal, college guest Prof. Fung Tung, Associate Vice President of CUHK and Professor in the Department of Geography and Resource Management, further enriched the festive atmosphere with a performance on the pipa, a traditional Chinese stringed instrument, fittingly titled A Toast to Invite the Moon. Prof. Fung Tung performed three pieces: "Moon Over Xunyang" (潯陽夜月), "Like Waves Against the Sand" (大浪淘沙), and "Snow in Early Spring" (陽春白雪). Apart from the musical performance, Prof. Fung Tung spoke on how returning to studying and performing music after giving up playing for decades has been a renewed source of pleasure, erudition, and peace in his life.  The beauty of the music was a promising sign that the New Year may bring all of those things and more to Morningside College.
