28 As of October 2020, there were 19 pregnant women in Hong Kong who had contracted COVID-19. Under the careful guidance of Prof. Liona Poon of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology who has drawn up global guidelines for managing pregnant women affected by COVID-19, most of them have successfully given birth, and some have returned to their home countries. Professor Poon hazards an informed guess that mask-wearing has partly contributed to the control of COVID-19 and that the protection has resulted in less-severe disease in affected pregnant women.
