NOTE: We prefer PhD applicants to MPhil applicants. The department does not usually offer student stipends to MPhil students. In addition, once admitted to the PhD stream, transfer to MPhil requires special approval and is subject to significant research output at the expected MPhil graduation date, i.e., we do not encourage students who come in as PhD students only to become MPhil students later.
