The CUHK Law moot team has won the Herbert Smith Freehills Competition Law Moot 2019 hosted by King’s College London from 13-15 June 2019.
There were 12 qualified teams entering the oral rounds of the competition, including teams from King’s College London (UK), Maastricht University (The Netherlands), National Law Institute University (India), O.P. Jindal Global University (India), Singapore Management University (Singapore), Symbiosis Law School (India), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong), The University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong), The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (India), University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Utrecht University (The Netherlands), and Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines University (France).
The CUHK and HKU teams advanced to the final round upon triumphing over the other 10 teams at the preliminary rounds and knock-out rounds held on 14-15 June, with CUHK ultimately taking the first place. The final round was adjudicated by a panel of distinguished judges from Herbert Smith Freehills, King’s College London, General Court of the European Union, European Commission, and the Competition and Markets Authority.
In addition to the championship, the CUHK team also won Best Written Pleadings and Best Advocate (awardee: YEUNG King Lun).
The CUHK team comprised CHIU Hei Tung (PCLL), CHIM Ho Man (PCLL), CHUNG Chun Ho (PCLL) and YEUNG King Lun (LLB), who were coached by Mr Carter CHIM.
