Teaching & Learning at CUHK LAW

CUHK LAW is committed to excellence in research and teaching. In its short history CUHK LAW has achieved an excellent reputation for the quality of its teaching and the dedication of its staff to sharing their passion for learning the law. CUHK LAW emphasizes the rigor of law studies and the importance of independent learning. Our teachers are dedicated to helping our students make the most of their own learning skills to optimise and enjoy their studies to empower them for their future careers.

The Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) is tasked to oversee teaching and learning activities within CUHK LAW with the ultimate goal the ensure that absolute priority is given to maintaining the high standards of teaching excellence.  He chairs the Committee on Teaching and Learning which was established with the main purpose to help academic colleagues enhance their teaching skills, to optimize students’ learning skills and to update everybody on the latest development in legal education by sharing best teaching practices from within and outside CUHK.

The Committee organizes a number of Teaching and Learning Seminars on a regular basis for colleagues to share new ideas in teaching. The Committee has also introduced Faculty Teaching Awards which will be awarded towards the end of the academic year and which are intended to recognise and encourage excellence in teaching. CUHK LAW also provides grants for research into teaching and learning, encourages CUHK LAW members to present papers at international legal education conferences and submit journal articles. The Committee has supported colleagues in their development of e-Learning techniques and other innovative teaching methods. Some examples of e-Learning techniques currently being used by CUHK LAW members include podcasts, eBooks, micro-modules, voting systems, and MOOCs. The PCLL programme has introduced a Standardised Client Initiative which provides students with trained “clients” to develop their interviewing skills. Last but not least, CUHK LAW is working closely  with world leaders in legal education to develop new teaching and learning concepts thus driving innovation in the sector globally.
