Our PCLL Programme has been designed in close consultation with the legal profession to equip students with the skills needed to serve as trainee solicitors or pupil barristers. Our students are among the best graduates of local and overseas universities who have completed LLB, JD or equivalent law qualifications. The admission process is strictly governed by academic merit. All applications are thoroughly reviewed by an admissions panel which meets on a regular basis during the admission period in order to select the best candidates.
The PCLL Programme admitted its first class of students in the 2008-2009 academic year and the Programme has proven to be well received by the legal professions, partly because of the emphasis on the training of skills, and partly because of the quality of students admitted.
The following are some facts about our entering class of 2021:
1. STUDENT DIVERSITY
The 2021-entering class has 140 students. The majority of students acquired their law qualifications from local universities. There is also a significant number of students who completed their law qualifications at renowned universities outside Hong Kong.
2. INTAKE QUALITY
All students have demonstrated strong academic results in their law qualifications. They also possess sound language skills as evidenced by the scores attained in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Certificate (academic module) examination. The minimum IELTS score required for PCLL admission is 7 or above; most students are well above 7.
3. CAREER SUCCESS
Our 2019-2020 PCLL graduates have a very strong record of employment in the legal and other sectors. According to the placement survey results which comprise 115 student responses out of 156 graduates of the 2019-2020 cohort, over 90% have been employed by law firms, the Department of Justice, have found places in sets of barrister’s chambers, or have chosen to pursue further academic studies.
