Oscar Ho Hing Kay specializes in the practice and critical studies of cultural management, particularly in the area of visual arts, museum management and curatorship. He was formerly Exhibition Director at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Senior Research Officer at the Home Affairs Bureau of the Hong Kong Government, and Founding Director of Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai.
He received curatorial training at Deusche Museum in Munich and Museum of Modern Art in New York, andhas been actively engaging in curatorial practice for nearly three decades and hascurated many exhibitions locally and internationally in Asia, Europe and North America. He has also been actively engaged in community cultural projects and is one of the pioneers in the promotion of community art. He was a member of the Museum Advisory Group for the West Kowloon Cultural District, responsible for conceiving the original curatorial conceptofthe cultural space ‘M+’, and was a member of the Consultation Panel of the West Kowloon Authority. He is a founding member of the board of Asia Art Archive and HULU, a community arts action group, and founderof Art in Hospital. He was also a member of the International Committee of documenta 13, responsible for selecting the artistic director for documenta.He writes regularly for local and international publications, including Art Forum, Newsweek, Art in Asia Pacific and Contemporary Art News, and is the founder of the Hong Kong Chapter of International Art Critics Association. He is chairman of the board of the C for Culture magazine, and member of the Advisory Board of the London-based journal Afterall. His recent publication include essays in <Contemporary Asian Art and Exhibitions > (National University of Australia Press,2014), <Arts and Cultural Leadership in Asia> (Routledge 2015), <The Future of Museum and Gallery Design> as co-editor and writer (Routledge, 2018), and a Chinese publication<About Curation> (MCCM 2016).
