Hello World! This is Hoover, your local resident tutor. It is my pleasure to join the family of CW Chu College. I was with CUHK throughout my whole university life since 2010. My majors during my undergraduate study were mathematics and information engineering. I am now a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Network Coding (CUHK) working on batched network codes. I focused on teaching solid foundation of computer programming when I was still a teaching assistant. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding the fundamental knowledge of computing, mathematics and engineering.

My academic background is a combination of theory and practice. Except information engineering, which is a kind of applied mathematics, I am good at practical subjects like networking, security, computer architecture, operating systems, etc. I also like to play with other branches of mathematics like coding theory and combinatorics. I would like to share my knowledge with you if you wish to know more about engineering, computer science, and how a computer works.

Besides academic life, I am interested in, although I am not good at, Cantonese opera, classical music, music theory, piano and archery. I would be happy if you want to share with me your hobbies and talents. Of course, I would be equally happy to discuss anything other than that. I will try my best to provide my support if you have any troubles. Please do not hesitate to let me know.

Lastly, I would like to wish you all a wonderful university life.

Hello! This is Parker. Being an alumnus of the oldest college in CUHK, I am delighted to come to join the youngest one. I am now working in the D. C. Lau Research Centre for Chinese Ancient Texts, the only one in Hong Kong (and few in the world) dedicated to classical Chinese texts studies. Before coming back to my alma mater, I taught Chinese language and literature courses in various tertiary institutes for a few years then studied for a master in the United Kingdom, where the collegial tradition begins.

Talking about academic interests, you are more than welcome to share with me your passion for early China (literally everything!), especially the formation of classics and the development of classical interpretations. I practice I-Ching divination, a fun way to read classical texts, but I do not perform it in any religious manner. You are free to come to me to ask for directions for life or simply want to know more about this mysterious classic. As a former lecturer of University Chinese, I would be happy to know how you feel about the courses and help you on coping with any difficulties in them.

Besides academic life, I would be equally happy if you want to tell me your daily especially college life. We will be good friends if you are also a fan of Su Shi (or Su Dongpo, one of the most famous classicists in Imperial China), creative writing, fantasy literature, and Cantonese language. The more active side of me enjoys solo travelling, dessert making (and consuming), badminton, archery, and other types of shooting sports. Also, you are warmly invited to be my coach if you are well-versed in Chinese calligraphy or gym.

Hello everyone! My name is Carmen. I am so happy to join the family of CW Chu College and be your new resident tutor in the coming year! I am from Macau, which is a small tourist city near Hong Kong. If you want to travel to Macau or wish to know more about the city, I would be pleased to share the information with you at any time.

I have been studying Chemistry at CUHK since 2016, therefore, I am also quite familiar with Hong Kong and this campus.I am now a doctoral student and my research focus is to develop high-performance organic semiconductor materials and devices using tools from organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry and surface chemistry. If you are interested in this field and have any questions about organic chemistry, please feel free to approach me for discussion.

I lived in a student dormitory at United College during my undergraduate years, where I became a member of the resident association and helped to organize various activities for other residents. I really enjoyed my hostel life and treasured the fond memories that I gained from those years. This unique experience has enriched my study life at CUHK, and helps me to understand the difficulties that you may encounter when you leave your home for the first time in life and live together with other youngsters from different cultural backgrounds.

As a new resident tutor at CW Chu College during this challenging time, I will try my best to provide assistance and support to the staying residents and the Warden. Please don’t hesitate to contact me through email, phone or just drop by my room. I am happy to get acquainted with you and learn your needs.

Wish you all have a fantastic university life!
